In this world but not of it!

The more I reflect on the providence of God, the more I realise He is always good.

What I have realised, and where the crunch comes as others begin to realise, is that God does not work everything for the good of everybody. But He works all things specifically for those He has called unto Himself.

Romans 8:28

(28)  And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Although God's intention is always good, there are times when it is necessary for evil to take place in order to shape those He loves for their own good. At these times, God turns over those who are not His own to their own evil ways, by allowing their hearts to harden to that which is good. Just as was the case with Pharoah.

Exodus 4:21
(21)  And the LORD said to Moses, "When you go back to Egypt, see that you do all those wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in your hand. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go.

So in all of this, does it make God someone who is unfair? After all, if someone is created by God, and yet is not chosen by God, and even has their heart hardened by God, why should they be punished for that?

As I think you would agree, the subject of providence enters into the whole plan of God for all His creation, for all is interlinked in one way or another. There are so many seemingly variable factors, all having a part to play on the overall outcome of creation, it is something we will never fully know this side of glory, but nevertheless, by faith we can believe that the Lord is in control, and has a purpose for everything.

It is this purpose that is His alone to know, that shows that God is not unfair in any way, but is always Good. It is by His Word that everything, both seen and unseen, has been created. All things working together, acting and reacting against one another, in order to produce a finished article that is in accordance with the desire and will of the Creator.

Many times in Scripture, God's people are spoken of as being refined by the Lord, as silver or gold. But in order to end up with the purified gold or silver, it must start off in a state of impurity, from which the silver or gold is extracted during a process of purification.

I'm no expert on how to extract precious metals from the earth, but I do know that it is a time consuming process, in which time much dross is separated from the end product over the time of being purified. But would it be wrong or unfair to cast the dross aside, in favour of the purified metal that was being sought? In the same way, it is not unfair of God to choose some and not others, for all are being use by Him to produce that which He desires.

Romans 3:5-6
(5)  But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unjust who inflicts wrath? (I speak as a man.)
(6)  Certainly not! For then how will God judge the world?

Romans 9:18-21
(18)  Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.
(19)  You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?"
(20)  But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you made me like this?"
(21) Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?

The Lord is not only the Creator of all things, but also the Sustainer of all things. He numbers the hairs on our head. Not a bird of the air will fall to the ground that goes unnoticed by God. The lilies of the field are clothed in splendour, even though they are here only for a fleeting moment. Right throughout nature, there is a God ordained balance, that causes all things to be sustained by His hand alone, and which principle stetches to the furthest stars in the sky, and the remotest galaxies known to man!

If you are a Christian. And by that I mean someone who has come into a life transforming experience with God, wherby His Holy Spirit has removed that which was dead from within you, and made you alive in Christ. How humbled should you be, that the Creator of the whole universe Has laid His hand upon your life, and chosen you to worship Him in spirit and truth for all eternity?

If on the other hand you are someone still dead in their sins and trespasses, and facing an eternity spent in damnation, then stop complaining and fall onto your knees instead. Cry out to the Lord Jesus Christ whilst your cries may still be heard, and receive His promise to save you. For all who repent and call upon His name shall be saved, and that includes you! For if you have been sufficiently stirred in spirit to realise that you are a sinner, and there is a Saviour willing to save, then this is the most clear sign of all that the Lord is calling you into His loving arms that you should be saved from His coming wrath.
