Challenging what we believe.
I realise that sometimes it may come across by the things I write that I'm a little rebellious, but this could not be further from the truth. Especially in a spiritual sense anyway, with regards to the flesh then I hold my hands up high.
As it should be obvious to all who visit, this whole website is an open forum to share your heart, and also openly interact and even object to the expressed views of other visitors without ill feeling. Providing this is done in an attitude of loving respect for one another, this is not unhealthy conflict, but rather healthy debate. This is the nature of apologetics, and providing self discipline is excercised by all involved, can be a valuable tool in shoring up the foundations of our faith.
I know from personal experience that, when the fundamental issues of faith are questioned in the lives of many Christians, they suddenly realise that the foundation for what they profess to believe is actually laid upon the doctrine of man, not God. This can lead to personal attack between believers as they are aware of their insecurities rising to the surface. I have to point out that it is never my intention to stir up this sort of thing to happen, but if the true light of Gods Word being shone on wrongful doctrine produces this effect, then so be it. My only allegience through this site is to Jesus Christ, His Word, and His Kingdom. I will give my life if necessary to defend His truth revealed through Scripture, and will not compromise this even for the sake of unity within His Body. This may sound a little harsh considering the title of this website ministry, but what fellowship does light share with darkness?
From this point onwards I intend to play my part in bringing some of these doctrines to light by all means necessary, and would ask other visitors to make their own offerings too, and comment openly on those made already. This is not to create some sort of hot-bed for the sake of extra visitors to the site, but rather that by allowing our faith in Christ to be tested and questioned openly, we remove as many footholds of the devil as possible to do the same in our lives. I am utterly convinced that Satan knows these questionable areas of our faith in Christ intimately, and is extremely skillful in bringing them to light in our lives at absolutely crucial times.
Some of the aspects I plan on drawing attention to include:
- * The timing of the rapture of the saints. Pre-Tribulation, post- Tribulation, pre-Wrath etc..
- * The validity of various Bible translations, and whether or not any are truly misleading.
- * The source of our assurance in the light of Scripture, as opposed to man's traditions.
- * The hierarchy within the Body of Christ. What is ordained by God, and what is man-made.
- * The rise of false doctrine and how to identify it. Plus how to deal with it in a Godly way.
- * Signs, wonders and spiritual manifestations. How to be sure of their source.
Obviously there are other subjects to examine, and others are invited too. I sincerely feel it far more beneficial for us to be in the healthy position of being as sure as we are able concerning the fundamental understanding of our faith in Christ, especially as the Bible itself warns us of the deception that will fall upon those who profess to believe. Ask yourself honestly: Am I best served examining the foundations of my faith and being sure of my inheritance in Christ, or trusting I know it all and chasing after the deeper mysteries of God?
I do not profess to know all the answers myself, but will use this platform to openly share the convictions of my heart regarding what I believe to be doctrinal error, and what Scriptural basis I believe these errors to be in conflict with. I will also point the way for others to expand on these matters for themselves, by offering material that may sometimes challenge the status quo we are so reluctant to see challenged.
If our faith in Christ is genuine, we have absolutely nothing to worry about concerning it being challenged, for it will never let us down. We are told quite clearly in Scripture to examine ourselves to ensure we are in the faith securely, and this is my effort to ensure visitors to this site are challenged to do just that.
God bless,
John.
